Copenhagen Zoo

After my journey through the Cisterns I walked across the road to Copenhagen Zoo. If you haven't noticed, I really enjoy going to zoos and have hit up quite a few in my time in Europe. I could not resist the Copenhagen Zoo not after walking a million miles to get to the Cisterns and it just being right across the street.

The Artis Zoo

The Artis Zoo was the first attraction I used my I amsterdam card with. I was super excited to start the day off with going to the zoo as zoos are one of my favourite types of attractions to visit. I just love animals. Artis, which is short for Natura Artis Magistra is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and one of the oldest zoos of mainland Europe. The zoo also contains an aquarium and a planetarium as well as a fairly large art collection.

The zoo was founded in 1838 and was initially only open to members. Starting in 1851 it was opened to the public during the month of September. In 1920, it was opened year-round to the public, but September remains discount month. I might have missed discount month but my visit was included in the price of my I amsterdam card so I had it pretty good anyways.

Jerez and the Zoo

As the adults in our party wished to venture off on a sherry tasting tour of a Bodega. I cannot remember which one but there are plenty of them in Jerez. Anyways, Jess and I were in no way interested in sherry or taking a tour of Bodega we had to come up with another option of what we could do. A little research and also the pamphlets at our hotel we decided we would check out Jerez's zoo.  (Very photo and animal heavy)

Berlin Zoo with Shane, Whitney and Pat

After the morning walking tour a group of us decided that we would pay the famous Berlin Zoo a visit.  We managed to find the nearest metro station by Check Point Charlie and bought tickets which was a bit of a struggle. After we all successfully had tickets in hand we boarded the metro and headed to the zoo. Not paying much attention when we exited the metro we missed the large giraffe telling us to head left. We headed right, wandering around a bit before turning around and managing to find the zoo.  I had gotten a small 10% card from the hostel so I was pretty excited. Finding the zoo entrance, we joined in the line of people queuing to get inside. The line moved quite quickly and we paid the €13 to get inside.

Budapest Day 2

It was our free day in Budapest and I was going to make the best of it. I crawled out of bed, headed downstairs after dressing and fed myself. Hostel breakfasts are either good or very very bad. This one was good but just barely. I made sure I had all my necessary items; wallet, camera, map, phone, ipod. All there. Good to go.
