Sunday Recap: June 28

As always I seem to be shocked with how fast time is flying. The work week starts and before I know it, the week is over. The weekend quickly ending as soon as it begins.

I've been taking the train to work this week which means I see Lime St quite a bit. Nothing exciting happening at work recently.

I went and watched Jurassic World on Wednesday. I thought it was very good. Can't go wrong with dinosaurs.

Yesterday I made two different pastas both from the Budget Bytes website. One Pot Roasted Red Pepper Pasta and Three Pepper Pasta with Crispy Pepperoni. They both turned out really well and I look forward to mixing them up through the work week if I work full days. I only know for sure that I am working 9-7 on Monday so will have to wait and see otherwise they will make yummy dinners.

Today I joined Jamie on a little adventure to Cineworld. We had planned on having a bite to eat before going to Minions. We should have got our tickets as soon as we finished eating but we did not get them as we did not think it would be that busy. We were mistaken after returning from checking out her new flat when we had to go to the next showing because there were only single seats left. I thought the movie was very funny.
I love the drawing above by Katie Abey. I follow her on instagram and I love her drawings.  They're cute and have a nice comedic touch to them.

Sunday Recap: January 18

This week has had its ups and downs. The work week has been pretty flat and normal but as it drew closer to the weekend things changed.

Jamie amazing Jamie went to Anfield and queued for me for tickets to the Liverpool vs Chelsea game this coming January 20. It's the Capital One Cup Semi-Final and my seat is in the Kop end. I am both excited and terrified. Chelsea is the biggest club I will have seen Liverpool play against at Anfield so that is very amazing.

On Friday after work I went and watched Wild in theatres and it inspired me quite a bit. It was a sad movie that hit at parts of me, making me homesick for the mountains and I missed my mom a lot after watching it.

Leaving the movies I headed over to Lucha Libre on Wood Street and enjoyed an amazing burrito.  also had my first footballer spotting when I sat about five feet away from Everton footballer Leighton Baines. All starstruck, I tried not to stare too much.

On Saturday I planned more of the Ireland trip with my sister Shawn over skype. We managed to book a B&B in Dingle. I am very excited for March to come. Only 47 days, 11 hours and 15 minutes as I write this now until I get to see my sister and mother in Paris. We are going to have such an amazing adventure.

I started reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt and it has quickly grown on me. Hope I get more time to read this captivating book.

Today, I headed into town to go to work. Yes, work on a Sunday. Poor me. I had been asked to do stock take and if I had known now what I do I would have said no to it but I said I would work it. I got in an hour early so headed to Leaf on Bold Street and enjoyed porridge and a nice pot of tea.  I went to work at 11 am this morning and will not bore you with the struggle but ended up leaving work at 9:15 pm. A very long day. On my lunch break I did manage to enjoy Yo! Sushi and also a sblendid milkshake which was expensive but tasty,

Anyways, hope my next Sunday Recap is a lot better.

Sunday Recap: January 11, 300 Days!

I cannot believe it's been 300 days since I left everything I knew behind and flew across the world on my big adventure. I have enjoyed everyday I have spent in the UK and hope that the next year will bring some exciting travel adventures.

I've been writing a lot of lists lately in my journal. Lots of cities in Europe as well as plans for the future.

All my photos lately have been of the sun setting. I am making plans to get out and explore Liverpool more. Be a tourist in my own city because for sure there are thousands of places I have not yet seen in Liverpool.

I worked Monday to Friday, nothing exciting there. The business happened on Saturday when I finally hauled myself into town and went on the Sandeman's New Liverpool Walking Tour. It was a really fun tour led by Phil. He took us around the main areas of Liverpool on a three hour walking tour.  I have been on a few Sandeman's tours and I thought this one was very well done. It was nice to play tourist and the weather was great on Saturday which made the tour just ten times better. It was a bit windy but as long as the skies were blue I did not care.  I enjoyed a massive bowl of noodles for lunch at Big Bowl Noodle Bar in Chinatown. I had hoped to take the second walking tour Phil mentioned they were starting to offer but I was the only one to show up so it was a no go.

On Sunday I had a very fun and full day. I took the bus into town with my housemate Nicola and met up with Jamie to visit my other housemate Danny's new coffee shop 92 Degrees. It's just opened and I think it's wonderful. I'm very happy and excited for Danny. After enjoying our hot beverages we headed down Bold Street and into Liverpool One where we stopped at American Pizza Slice for you guessed it, pizza. I had a delicious spicy vegetarian and a slice of Hawaiian. I was very impressed with how much pineapple was on my slice. We headed to the Odeon afterwards and watched Into the Woods which I thought was very well done and had an interesting storyline.  When the movie ended we went to Wagamama's in Liverpool One for some dinner. I enjoyed the chicken care lomen which was ramen noodles in a spicy coconut and lemongrass soup topped with grilled chicken, cucumber and beansprouts. As with my big bowl of noodles on Saturday, I succeeded in filling my craving for noodle soups. I still have yet to find a pho place but these two dishes were very good.

Sunday Recap: December 28

This past week wet by really quickly. I only had to work three days so rather than take the bus I took the train. It was a nice experience. Work whipped by and I worked only four hours Christmas Eve and it was all on tills. All my housemates disappeared off to their own families leaving me all by myself. A bit of a lone wolf, I opened presents, drank, cooked myself a lovely turkey dinner and then in the spirit of Frozen built my own snowman using most of the snow in the yard. Lots of chocolate was also consumed over the four days I had off. I watched 'The Hundred Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared' a present from Jamie. My coworker Becky also got me the Welsh tv series Stella and I was able to get through the first four episodes.

With the new year coming I a trying to decide on some goals to set myself for travel but so far its relatively small. Will need more time to think about it.
1. Harry Potter Studio Tour
2. Disneyland Paris

Sunday Recap: December 14 2014

This week was full of early starts and lots of customers.  Christmas is soon upon us and I'll be happy when it's come and gone. We've had Christmas jumper this week and I happily sported my Elf jumper with pride.

The week seemed to fly by and soon it was Friday. We were heading out for a work night out and it was a lot of fun. I made friends with tequila that night.  I called it quits when I felt I was having too much and headed home.

On Saturday I woke up with no hangover. Lucky me. I headed into town and used my last movie pass to go to Paddington which was a very cute and funny movie. I enjoyed the entire thing so I can only suggest giving it the benefit of the doubt.  After the film, I got a slice of Hawaiian from American Pizza slice before walking to the Walker Art Gallery and enjoying a stroll through the beautiful art.

Sunday, today, has been a bit of a slow start. I had a sleep in and I could not decide whether to make soup or to not make soup. I have decided to postpone that question for tomorrow. Watching Liverpool play away at Manchester United. Hoping for a win.

Sunday Recap November 23

I am going to attempt every Sunday to make a quick post on what happened throughout the week to keep everyone up to date on my life.

On Wednesday I went to Swan Lake at the Empire Theatre in Liverpool performed by the English National Ballet. It was truly beautiful and I am very happy that I decided to go.

On Saturday I enjoyed the crafts market at the Scandinavian Seamen's Church in the Baltic Triangle with Jamie. We went for lunch at Nando's before seeing the Imitation Game. The movie is very good and I highly recommend seeing it.

Today, Sunday, I walked to the big Tesco and picked up a phone card to top up the one I currently had. I made my delicious Lentil and Sausage Stew that I have made for the past three weeks in a row. I've substituted the spinach for kale and each week I seem to use a different type of sausage. This week I've added sweet corn which is a tasty addition. As I made my stew I watched the Liverpool vs Crystal Palace game which they sadly lost 3-1. I called dad and had a good conversation with him.

The wind is rising. We must try to live.

March 4th,
The day started with gloomy conditions. It seems like rain is determined on causing grey skies for my weeks off. Is it trying to tell me something?

Movie I watched today...

I watched the Book Thief which is based on the novel by Markus Zusak. The book is about a young girl named Leisel Meminger who is given up by her mother to a foster family. The story is based in Germany prior to World War II and tells the story of how her interactions with her new family, her neighbourhood and the young Jew who comes to hide in their basement. As the title of the book reveals, Leisel steals a few books.

I really enjoyed reading the book and am glad I was finally able to watch the movie version of it. I thought they did a very good job. The scenes in the book that they left out in the movie was not very noticeable luckily.

Week November 17-23rd

This week has been big. I have thought a lot of things during this week and a lot of things have happened. The ball has started to roll, the pawn has made a move.  Work is still the same. I have not heard back from the interview on wether or not I have the supervisors role. I hope that I get it but at the same time am very open to not getting the position. If I do not get it then I will move back to being Production Coordinator which means that I will not be paid as much.

On Sunday me and my sister went and watched About Time with my sister. We went to the New Westminster Quay for lunch at the Paddlewheeler Pub and each got the beef dip. Across the street from the Quay is the New Westminster Skytrain which also contains a Shoppers Drug Mart, Safeway, Landmark Cinemas and various other stores. The movie was very good. I really enjoyed the acting as well as the story line. The main actor Domhnall Gleeson is the son of Brendan Gleeson, who stars in two of my favourite films In Bruges and The Guard. I am glad to see Domhnall getting more films. I think the idea about going back in time to change moments is very interesting and had me questioning what moments in time I would go back and change. I know the concept is that if you change the past your now would be different. You may not be where you are now, you may not know the people you are so close to, you may not be the same person.

On Monday I didn't really do much. :P Probably a bit of sleeping and working and thinking.

On Tuesday I went and saw Thor 2 which I really enjoyed. Tuesdays are cheap day at the movie theatre so I try and watch movies on Tuesdays so that I can save money. I really love movies if you hadn't noticed. I thought the acting was very good. Tuesday was also very big as I booked my flight. That was a very bold move as I have not yet got my visa so I better get that damn visa or else I'm just going on holiday.

Wednesday and Thursday were much like Monday. Lots of planning going on but nothing really big.

On Friday I decided to go to Scotia Bank to ask about their accounts. I've made an appointment for Monday the 25th to talk about opening up one. I have a visa card with them which I really enjoy as I earn points towards free movies. Feeds my addiction I guess. The cool thing is that Scotia Bank is linked to Barclays in the Uk so you can use their ATMs for free. I have heard really good things about Barclays being able to open accounts without proof of address which is amazing so I am leaning towards them for my bank account when I move across the pond. After the bank I drove to Metrotown to check out Atmopshere, an outdoor store to see if they had the Osprey Porter 46 backpack that I was interested in. They did not. I really should have called ahead.

I gave up on that and decided to head over to the theatre to watch The Hunger Games Catching Fire. The line up for it was so long so I quickly evacuated the mall and drove all the way to Coquitlam in hopes of gaining access to the movie. I hustled inside, booked a ticket at the VIP cinema with my points so it was free! Saving me $19.  I walked right in, sat down half way through the previews and watched the film in a half empty theatre. No one next to me. Very enjoyable.  I really liked the movie. I cant remember much of the first one in terms of detail. I have read all three books but I could not say it this one was better. Curse my bad memory. The ending was very good and left me wanting more. I went to Coquitlam Centre afterwards and did a bit of shopping, again checking out Atmosphere only to find they did not have the bag. The associate checked the system and found out that the Park Royal store has the bag.  Now I knew where it was.

On Saturday I met up with my sister to take her to the doctor's. It was a quick appointment luckily. After we went down to West Broadway and enjoyed burritos from Best Burrito. The reason we went down to West Broadway was to check out MEC and see their Wayfarer backpack that retails at $79.00. The backpack was quite cool and comes with a daypack but I was not fully sold on the bag. We decided to drive to West Vancouver and check out the Atmosphere there for the Osprey bag. We found it tucked away. It was the green bag. The bag comes in green, red and black. It retailed at $129, I have found it at REI in Bellingham for $99.00 but online I was able to find it for $74.25 on Amazon. That would be a savings of $54.75 which is pretty crazy! I hope that the price does not go up as I am still unsure if I want to spend the money on a new bag. I have a Tatonka Great Escape 45 which is very heavy in comparison to the Porter.  I will make a post about the two bag options I am thinking about very soon.

After dropping off my sister I went to Coquitlam to my coworker Jess' nail painting party. It was a lot of fun. We painted our nails, chatted, enjoyed pizza and ended the night playing Cards Against Humanity. We all arrived around 6 and left at Midnight so a good solid six hours spent there. I went home and fell quickly asleep.
